BIO

After graduating in European economic studies at the College of Europe, I worked as a civil servant in Norway with what is now Innovation Norway and the National Institute of Technology, and as a partner in a consultancy, promoting regional development and entrepreneurship, with a particular emphasis on female entrepreneurship. I subsequently got my PhD in economic sociology at the University of Oslo in 1995. Since 1997, I have worked as a researcher at a number of research institutions, including the Work Research Institute and the University of Oslo, with a focus on organisational and spatial flexibility in the public sector, management, gender equality, work–family arrangements, and men and masculinities. I am currently a senior researcher and director of Policy and Social Research AS in Oslo, and involved in research on labour migration and work–life balance in Europe as well as theories of social justice. I have also served as a national expert on gender equality to the European Commission DG for Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion.

WHAT THE COLLEGE MEANT TO ME

I very fondly remember my year at the College of Europe. It is an exciting place of intellectual rigor and with a uniquely international student population.
