New horizons for the Development Office

The Development Office of the College of Europe is exploring new territory in the Mediterranean region and Central America through two of the Commission’s external aid initiatives (EuropeAid).
In relation to the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, the Development Office has been asked to contribute to the implementation of the Association Agreement between the EU and Algeria. It is foreseen that the Development Office covers different areas of expertise including business management and regulations, customs and excise issues, management and administration of projects (including twinning projects) and of information and communication systems. These assignments will also involve the Algerian Ministry of Commerce, various government departments and other public institutions. The second project concerns the promotion of the Central American integration process. The consortium in which the College is a partner has the Development Office lined up in the ‘Support Project for the Central American Common Policies’ (Spanish acronym: ADAPCCA). The aim of this initiative, which is funded by the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration and the European Union, is to facilitate the design, development and implementation of common policies for the establishment of a Central American Customs Union.
