On 3 February 2011, Lieutenant General Hans-Lothar Domröse, Commander Eurocorps and former Commander German Special Forces and Chief of Staff ISAF Afghanistan 2008, gave a guest lecture entitled "Eurocorps - A Force for the European Union and the Atlantic Alliance". The lecture addressed the growing role of Eurocorps from its founding in 1992 to its future perspectives, taking into account the changing nature of conflicts. It also explained the relations of Eurocorps with NATO and the EU and gave an overview of the role of Eurocorps in international missions such as ISAF Afghanistan.

A vivid debate with the students followed. Many questions to the speaker concerned the current situation in Afghanistan, particularly how to deal with terrorism, the future prospects for the fight against drug production and trafficking and the role of Pakistan in the conflict. Questions also addressed Eurocorps' relationship with the EU CSDP and the nature of the cooperation among the five Associated Nations.

The lecture was organised by the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies.
