On 13 April 2011, the College of Europe - Natolin campus inaugurated the European Parliament - Bronisław Geremek European Civilization Chair. This Chair has been created thanks to the support of the European Union, and in particular the European Parliament in the memory of Professor Bronisław GEREMEK†. The inaugural ceremony was followed by a reception.
The inauguration was opened by Professor Paul DEMARET, Rector of the College of Europe followed by an address by Mrs. Ewa OŚNIECKA-TAMECKA, Vice-Rector of the College of Europe - Natolin campus who recalled Professor Bronisław GEREMEK and presented the new Chairholder Professor João Carlos ESPADA.
Professor João Carlos ESPADA gave his inaugural lecture on "Europe in the XXth Century: From Division to Reunification". This will also be the subject of a one semester course. The Chair will also organize lectures and conferences and publish articles and books on the subject. This is in keeping with Professor GEREMEK's personal history, with the role he played in Poland and in Europe both before and after the Fall of Communism. The inauguration was shown by videoconferencing for the students of the Bruges campus.
