Guy Patrick BANIM

Guy Banim (IE/UK) has over twenty years of experience in peace process support having begun his career as an official in the Northern Ireland Office working on the implementation of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement. Subsequently, he worked for the EU Conflict Prevention and Crisis Management Division in Brussels as well as in the EU Delegation in Nepal, EU Police Mission Afghanistan and in Addis Ababa as EU adviser to the African Union on the African Peace and Security Architecture. He was team leader of the Mediation Support Team in the European External Action Service 2011-2014 and has been an associate analyst for EU Institute of Security Studies on the ASEAN Regional Forum approach to preventive diplomacy. He is on the UN ExpRes roster for mediation experts.

Ensuring inclusive and participatory dialogue processes has been a key theme of his work. He has supported local actors in diverse settings (e.g. Nepal, Mozambique, Myanmar, Zanzibar, Swaziland, Togo, Afghanistan, Ethiopia) for a range of organisations including UNDP, Crisis Management Initiative, Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, ACCORD - African Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes, Conciliation Resources, and the Berghof Foundation. Guy Banim holds a Master’s in Conflict and Sustainable Peace from KU Leuven and has completed training in multi-track mediation required for certification by the German Federal Association for Mediation (Bundesverband Mediation). He has designed and delivered short courses on EU approaches to dialogue and mediation for a range of forums including the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy EU summer school, Swazi civil society, ASEAN Regional Forum - Preventive Diplomacy and Mediation Training workshops for diplomats in Yogjakarta and Yangon.
