Debate with Dr Adam BODNAR, Polish Ombudsman

On 21 May 2018, Natolin students had the opportunity to meet with Dr Adam BODNAR, the incumbent Commissioner for Human Rights in Poland and discuss topics such as human rights, constitutional reforms, and the rule of law.

After a brief overview of his particular role as an independent institutional actor, Dr BODNAR delivered a concise explanation of current events in the country. Students raised questions notably concerning the ongoing constitutional reforms in Poland and the reaction by the European Union with the activation of the Article 7 (1) of the Treaty on European Union which should examine the status of the rule of law in the country.

This led to an open discussion between Dr BODNAR and the students, as the Polish Ombudsman voiced his concerns on the constitutional reforms vis-à-vis the judiciary.

This meeting also was the concluding event of the Human Rights Society for the Academic Year 2017/18 which was a particularly busy one for the team. The Human Rights Society would like to extend their gratitude to all the people involved who supported them during all events and activities in the last months.
