Local Committee for the College of Europe

Bruges Campus

The Local Committee for the College of Europe is composed of local figures from the region of Bruges and representatives of the College

Its objective is to promote the integration of the College’s students within the heart of the Bruges community by means of initiating cultural and social events which are then organised by the Student Affairs Office. From 2008 onwards it has been a tradition to organise a yearly European Concert.

Testimonials

Thanks for the visit and talk at the Groeningemuseum on Sunday, 16 January 2011, it was very interesting.

Marco BARONI (Student, Albert Einstein Promotion)

The guide Rudy De NOLF gave a really wonderful tour. He has a scholar's knowledge of the subject, a Bruges citizen's love of his city, and a gift of clear and economical description (in English, as well as in other languages - Flemish and French, and probably more!) that any professor, myself included, could only envy. He mentioned in conversation beforehand, while the students were gathering in the foyer at Dijver, that sometimes graduates of the College, who have returned to Bruges as visitors, recognise him on the street, remembering his talks to their respective year group. I mentioned this to the present group of students at the end of the tour in the Burg, and said that what our guide gave us, like himself, is "unforgettable". Thank you for arranging this memorable experience. And a profound "thank you" to Mr. DE NOLF for sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for his home town and its place in the world, now and in times past, with us.” Alan HENRIKSON (Fulbright Professor, 2010-2011)

"We very much enjoyed both dinners and learnt a lot about Bruges and the local community. It was really refreshing to get a different perspective on the city as most of the College students are living a very similar experience and we do not have much contact with local residents. Both families were very warm and welcoming and interested to learn about the College and our experience of Bruges. We are hoping to meet with the families again after our thesis deadlines.Thank you, Natalia MARCZEWSKA" (EU International Relations & Diplomacy Studies Charles Darwin Promotion, 2009-2010)

"Our first experience with your students was an exciting, sometimes heart-warming experience. The first contact was exploratory, reserved, but now we share really well the ups (and downs) occurring during their studies. At every meeting  a piece of the puzzle falls into place. We are grateful for this enrichment as a family!" (Bruges host family, 2010-2011)

"I write to you about the project to which I took part at the beginning of the year, spending a Saturday with a Belgian family! I do not know if I was very lucky, but I am still in contact with my family whom I have seen regularly this year and I want to thank the College and I hope that also next year students will have the same great chance as I got within this study year. Thanks and Regards, Elvira DI MARTINO" (European Legal Studies, Albert Einstein Promotion, 2010-2011)
