Opening European Studies Institute

Ms. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Commissioner for External Relations held the opening address.

The cooperation with MGIMO will be deepened during the coming 3 years through the TEMPUS Project 26033-2005, which was recently awarded to the College’s Development Office, and which will be implemented in cooperation with the State University of Saint-Petersburg, the Moscow State Academy of Law and the Université de Lille II. The opening was attended by Dr. Marc M.R. Vuijlsteke, Director General of the Development Office, Professor Dr. Dieter Mahncke, Director of Studies of the European Political and Administrative Studies Department and of the EU International Relations and Diplomacy Department, and by Ms. Annouchka Nabokov, Programme Manager in the Development Office.

Dr. Vuijlsteke and Ms. Nabokov also participated in a conference on ‘EU-Russia Relations’ organised by the School of International Relations of the State University of Saint-Petersburg on 20 October. Marc Vuijlsteke chaired the panel on Research, Education and Culture and gave a lecture during a session devoted to the 10th anniversary of the State University’s Department of European Studies, which was established with the help of a TEMPUS Programme coordinated by the College of Europe between 1994 and 1997 (see http://www.dip.pu.ru/project/061020/index_e.htm).
