ERMES III — Regional Organisations Meeting on Mediation

On 4 and 5 December 2019, the European Union, in partnership with the United Nations, hosted experts from regional organisations active on mediation and conflict prevention for a high-level meeting. The meeting, which took place in Brussels, allowed experience sharing and discussion on issues such as the effect of climate change and of scarcity of natural resources on peace processes, the impact of digital technologies on conflict and mediation efforts, and ceasefire mediation.

In addition to EU and UN staff, the event hosted participants from the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of African States (ECCAS), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Organization of American States (OAS), the League of Arab States (LAS) and the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).

The event was organised with the support of the EU-funded project "European Resources for Mediation Support III" (ERMES III), which provided logistical support and technical expertise.

ERMES III is an EU project financed by the FPI's Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace. The College of Europe is the consortium leader in charge of implementing the project. The other consortium members are leading organizations specialized in mediation and dialogue: the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES)ESSEC IRENÉFondation HirondelleInterpeace, and MediatEUr.
