In the framework of the EU-funded project El-Hiwar II, the College of Europe Development Office organised, on Monday 13 July 2020, an online meeting named: “Inter-Institutional Dialogue: Response to Covid-19 and Repercussions on Euro-Arab Relations” for officials working for the League of Arab States (LAS) and the EU Institutions.
Aiming at supporting the exchange of information and best practices between the EU and the LAS, the project has identified the need of discussing how the crisis is affecting both organizations, and how the social, economic and geopolitical of challenges are being dealt with.
The following three topics were discussed:
- How are the LAS and the EU dealing with the COVID-19 situation?
- What could be the repercussions of the virus on the Arab and European worlds?
- Are there opportunities for cooperation between the two regions to face this pandemic?
El-Hiwar II: Training and Information Course on Euro-Arab Diplomacy, is a project funded by European Commission DG NEAR and implemented by the College of Europe. It is conceived as a dialogue tool for the EU and the LAS to support strengthened work relations and to learn about each other's functioning, mechanisms and policies.
