Halloween in Natolin

On 31 October 2020, the Charity and Fundraising Society at the College of Europe in Natolin held their first event — a Charity Pumpkin Carving Competition.

Participants chose the most promising pumpkin and carved it into frightfully creative designs. Prizes were awarded for three categories: "Silliest Face", "Scariest Pumpkin" and "Best 2020 Pumpkin". For entry into the competition, participants were encouraged to sponsor their pumpkin with a small donation to Fundusz Lokalny Masywu Śnieżnika — a community fund working to improve the quality of life of the local community in the four communes of the Śnieżnik Massif in Southern Poland.

The "Best 2020 Pumpkin" category proved highly competitive as students masterfully carved Zoom screens, Women’s Strike symbols and the Coronavirus on to their canvases. The winners of each category were decided by popular vote and received prizes donated by the Communications Office.

On Sunday evening, students were further treated to a bake sale in aid of the same NGO. A talented team of student bakers displayed their artistic skills through their intricate and colourful icing designs, with their College of Europe and Halloween-themed biscuits selling out almost instantly.

In total, Natolin students raised 840 PLN for Fundusz Lokalny Masywu Śnieżnika. Students and organisers were equally thrilled at the success of the charity events and hope to hold similar events in the near future!

A big thank you also goes to the Natolin Restaurant Staff that organised a wonderful Halloween themed dinner prepared the decorations, provided the students with pumpkins and all the logistics for the pumpkin carving event.
