Job Vacancy – Chairholder of the TOTAL Chair of “EU Foreign Policy” at the College of Europe

The College of Europe is seeking applications for the position of a part-time professor (40 to 50 %), with a preferred starting date of November 2010 (and at the latest before 1 January 2011). The successful candidate will hold the newly established "EU Foreign Policy Chair" financed by TOTAL. The Chair will be based in the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies in Bruges, which focuses on the European Union's external relations, but the Chairholder will also work with students from the European Interdisciplinary Studies programme offered at the Natolin (Warsaw) campus.

We are looking for a specialist on EU Foreign Policy with:

  • a Ph.D. in International Relations, Political Science or a related discipline;
  • several years of university-level teaching experience in the field;
  • a publication record on EU Foreign Policy;
  • a very good command of English and French;
  • well established contacts with European institutions;
  • flexibility.

Tasks include:

  • teaching a Master's level course on EU Foreign Policy in the EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies programme (in Bruges - starting in September 2011) and in the European interdisciplinary programme (in Natolin – Warsaw - starting in January 2011);
  • supervising Master's theses on EU Foreign Policy;
  • carrying out research on EU Foreign Policy;
  • organising conferences and guest lectures on EU Foreign Policy.

The College offers the following conditions:

  • a part-time contract under Belgian law (40 to 50 %, negotiable) of a three-year period, renewable;
  • support for research and teaching through a part-time assistant;
  • an international working environment;
  • the College of Europe will provide accommodation during the periods the chairholder is required to stay in Bruges or Natolin and will support the cost of roundtrip travel between the European country of residence and the College.
