Job Vacancy - Chairholder of the “EP-Geremek European Civilization Chair” at the College of Europe Natolin (Warsaw) campus

The College of Europe is seeking candidates for the newly established “EP-Geremek European Civilization Chair” created by the European Parliament in honour of the late Professor Bronisław Geremek. The Chair consists of a part-time professorship (at least 50%) for the period of 2010-2013, with a preferred starting date of 1st December 2010. The Chair will be based in Warsaw at the Natolin campus of the College of Europe.

The Chair will broadly focus on European civilization, with a special emphasis on recent European history. It will combine teaching and research activities.

Requirements:

  • a Ph.D, preferably in history;
  • a proven track record of research and teaching excellence in the area of recent European history and a good knowledge of the European integration process;
  • a significant experience in teaching at postgraduate level and in the supervision of postgraduate students;
  • a good command of English and French;
  • a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.

Tasks include:

The Chairholder is expected to be present on the Natolin campus at least two weeks per month on average during the academic year.

  • The Chairholder will be responsible for a course on recent European history that will be part of the European Interdisciplinary Studies Programme at the Natolin campus of the College of Europe
  • The Chairholder will be responsible for the supervision of a number of master’s theses dealing with European recent history and, more generally, with European civilization
  • The Chairholder will engage in research focusing on European recent history and leading to academic publications.
  • The Chairholder will be involved in the selection of students benefitting from the Professor Geremek scholarships offered by the Chair
  • The Chairolder will be a member of the Board involving the College of Europe and the Centrum im. prof. Bronisława Geremka Foundation, responsible for the granting of an annual award in honour of the late Professor Geremek;
  • The Chairholder will be involved in additional activities linked to the Chair (e.g. conferences, seminars, guest lectures).
  • The Chairholder will be a member of the European Interdisciplinary Faculty (Natolin Campus) and will work under the authority of the Rector of the College of Europe.
