
Colin Kirkpatrick (UK) is Professor Emeritus of Development Economics and Director of the Impact Assessment Research Centre at the University of Manchester.
He was trained as an economist at Queens University Belfast and at the London School of Economics and obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Manchester. Professor Kirkpatrick has extensive research experience in the field of development economics and policy analysis and has provided advisory and consultancy services to a wide range of public and private organisations, including the European Union, the World Bank, UNCTAD, the ILO, and the OECD. He has inter alia developed the Trade Sustainability Impact Assessment methodology for the European Commission.
Professor Kirkpatrick's recent publications include Regulatory Impact Assessment: Towards Better Regulation? (with D. Parker, 2008), Impact Assessment and Sustainable Development: European Policy and Experience (with C. George, 2007), and Finance and Development: Theory, Practice and Policy (with C. Green and V. Murinde, 2006). He is also co-editor of the journal Impact Assessment and Project Appraisal.
