Director, Policy Planning in the Private Office of the Secretary General, NATO since 2005. Dr Shea’s career at NATO began 25 years ago. During this time he has held various positions, including that of a spokesperson for NATO from 1993 to 2000. He holds a PhD from Oxford University. His teaching experience includes the following: Associate Professor of International Relations, American University, Washington DC, Director of the Brussels Overseas Study Programme; Jean Monnet Visiting Professor in the postgraduate programme "Maîtrise en Politique Internationale" at the Université Libre de Bruxelles; Lecturer in US/European Relations in the European Studies Program of the University of Antwerp; Adjunct Associate Professor of International Relations, James Madison College, Michigan State University - Director of the MSU Summer School in Brussels; Course instructor, Boston University, M.A. in International Relations Programme in Benelux. Dr. Shea has published numerous books and articles on NATO and the subjects of transatlantic relations and security.
