Lieven Tack was born in 1973 in Kortrijk, Belgium. He has a PhD in Economics (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium) and master degrees in European Studies (College of Europe) and Engineering (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium).
He has been a Fellow of Open Society Institute in Romania and Bulgaria and was visiting professor in Economics and EU Affairs at several universities in Bulgaria and Romania. Besides, he has been principal EU advisor of the Flemish minister for Foreign Affairs and has worked as an economist in the European Commission.
He is currently deputy chief of Cabinet of the Flemish deputy prime minister and visiting professor at the College of Europe. Besides, he is a member of the Governing Boards of SYNTRA Vlaanderen and European Movement Belgium and is vice president of the Alumni Association of the College of Europe. He is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences and writes articles in newspapers and magazines on EU affairs.
