Miguel Poiares Maduro is Professor in the Department of European Law at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, European University Institute, Florence. He served as Advocate General at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg from 2003 to 2009. He has a law degree from the University of Lisbon and received his doctorate in law from the European University Institute in 1996. Among other appointments, he has been a visiting professor at the London School of Economics, the College of Europe and the Institut Ortega y Gasset in Madrid, as well as professor at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. In 1998, he was a Fulbright researcher at Harvard University. Amongst his numerous publications are A Constituição Plural – Constitucionalismo e União Europeia (1998) and We The Court – The European Court of Justice and the European Economic Constitution (2006).
