Paul Meerts

Paul Meerts (NL) is Advisor to the Director of the Netherlands Institute of International Relations 'Clingendael' at The Hague, Netherlands, and trainer and researcher in diplomatic negotiations.

He is also Visiting Professor at the University of Economics in Prague, Czech Republic, and at the UNESCO Institute for Water Education in Delft, Netherlands. After graduating in Political Science and International Relations from Leiden University, he was a researcher in Groningen, Leiden, Belgrade and Budapest as well as coordinator of diplomatic courses at the Netherlands Society of International Affairs. As co-founder of the Clingendael Institute he was Director of the Department of Training and Education (1983-1989) and Deputy Director of the Institute (1990-2006).

Professor Meerts draws on a vast international experience regarding consultancies, workshops and advisorships and is a member of the Steering Committee of the Processes of International Negotiation (PIN) Network. He is the author of many publications on international negotiations, including the Workbook on International Negotiation (2010, revised version) and European Union Negotiation (2004 with Franz Cede).
