Philomena B. Murray

Visiting professor, EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies Department

Philomena Murray (AU/IE) is Associate Professor in the School of Social and Political Sciences and Director of the Contemporary Europe Research Centre at the University of Melbourne, Australia.

She is a graduate of the College of Europe in Bruges and of the University College Dublin and obtained her Ph.D. at the European University Institute in Florence. Philomena Murray holds Australia's only Jean Monnet Chair ad personam and is an Australian Research Council 'expert of international standing'. A former Irish diplomat, she runs training courses on negotiating with the EU for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Her fields of interests focus on EU-Australia relations, EU-Asia relations, EU governance and comparative regional integration. Her most recent books include Europe and Asia: Regions in Flux (editor, Palgrave Macmillan 2008) and Australia and the European Superpower (Melbourne University Press 2005).
