Reinhard Bettzuege

HE Reinhard Bettzuege (DE) is Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Belgium.

He studied Law, English and German literature as well as Political Science (PhD) at the University of Bonn and at the University of Maryland, College Park, US. In 1974 he joined the German Foreign Service and was posted, inter alia, in Lisbon, London and Belgrade. From 1982 to 1995, Ambassador Bettzuege was Deputy Spokesperson, later Head of the Public Information Department of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Press and PR Adviser to Foreign Ministers Genscher and Kinkel. Before being appointed Ambassador to Belgium in 2007, he was Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany to NATO (1995-2000) and Permanent Representative of Germany to the OSCE (2000-2002). Since 1984, Ambassador Bettzuege has been teaching at the Foreign Service Schools in Pretoria, Berlin, Vienna, Kiev and Oman, and from 2003 to 2007 he was Professor of International Relations and Diplomacy at Andrassy University Budapest.
