Christopher Lord (UK) has been Professor at ARENA - Centre for European Studies at the University of Oslo, Norway, since October 2008.

Between 2004 and 2008 he was Professor of Political and European Studies at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. He has also taught at the University of Bath, the University of Leeds and the Université libre de Bruxelles. He held the Jean Monnet Chair in European Politics at the University of Leeds.

Christopher Lord holds a Master's degree in Political Science, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Oxford and a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics.

He was awarded a research grant under the European Commission's 6th Framework Programme (2007-2012) as an integral part of the programme coordinated by ARENA. In the past, he has received several research grants from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), including the fellowship for the "One or More Europes?" programme (1999-2002).

Professor Lord has written several books on democracy and the legitimacy of the European Union such as A Democratic Audit of the European Union (2004), Democracy in the New Europe (2005, with Erika Harris), Democracy and the European Union (1998), Legitimacy and the European Union (1998, with David Beetham) and Political Parties and the European Union (1997, in collaboration with Simon Hix). He has also published articles in the Journal of Common Market Studies, Democratisation, the Journal of Comparative European Politics, Politique Européenne and Government and Opposition.
