Luca Franza is the Head of EU Institutional Affairs of Italian utility Edison SpA and is based in Brussels. Luca is also a Scientific Advisor to the Energy, Climate and Resources Programme at Istituto Affari Internazionali (Rome), which he led in 2020-2021, Associate Fellow at the Clingendael International Energy Programme (CIEP) in The Hague (The Netherlands), a member of Atlantic Council fellowships (Washington DC), a Co-Chair of the T20 task force on sustainable energy and climate and a Visiting Professor in the Energy Master of the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) – SciencesPo (Paris). He holds a PhD from the University of Groningen (The Netherlands), earned with a thesis on the political-economic impact of transformations in long-term gas contracts between the EU and Russia. He graduated in Political Science at LUISS University (Rome) and in International Security with a specialisation in International Energy at SciencesPo (Paris). He has several publications on topics related to energy transition, natural gas markets and energy geopolitics.
