BORDIGNON M. - Public Policy Analysis (30h)

The course aims to familiarize students with the foundations and tools, taken from both economics and politics, for understanding the functioning of public institutions and the determination of public policies. We will in particular study the main tools used by economists to formulate normative judgments about policies and to analyse their effects, giving particularly emphasis to the new evaluation techniques. We will also briefly discuss how policies are formulated and located on the political and policy agenda. Examples will be offered and discussed concerning mostly European policies. A structured debate among students on relevant European policy issues will conclude the course.
