Introductive Seminar on International Humanitarian Law (IHL)

From 19/03 09:00 till 21/03 20:00

Belgium

The Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRD) to the EU and the College of Europe Natolin Campus are organising for the third time an Introductive Seminar on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) which takes place at the College of Europe Natolin campus, from 19-21 March 2009.

Its aim is to familiarise students with the new and growing challenges the international community is confronted with in the domain of Humanitarian Protection.

In the framework of the College’s cooperation with the ICRC, and in the light of the most recent developments of the European Defence and Security Policy, Professor Yves Sandoz (Université de Genève), together with Professor Elzbieta Mikos-Skuza (Warsaw University), and other practitioners of Law and EU affairs will address highly discussed issues related to the implementation of IHL by the European Union. Taken into consideration the growing need to deal with the consequences of conflicts, this seminar is an excellent occasion to acquire in-depth knowledge on the subject and talk with academics and practitioners from the International Red Cross.

The seminar is open to students (in their final year of studies) of Law and Administration, International Relations, Political Science, Diplomacy, European Studies, Journalism and other related fields, students of the College of Europe, as well as to students/researchers currently attending a postgraduate programme in the above fields.

A certificate of participation will be given to participants who follow the entire programme. The programme will be conducted in English without translation.
