EGENHOFER Christian & OBERTHÜR Sebastian - International Climate Negotiations (10h)

This course will familiarize students with the challenges and realities of international climate negotiations in the UN context and will enable them to address these challenges productively. It consists of two major blocks. First, a block of three introductory lectures provides background on the challenge of climate change, the history of international climate policy from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) concluded in 1992 to the Paris Agreement of 2015, and international negotiations in general. The main focus and culmination point is, second, a simulation game that allows students to gain first-hand in-depth experience of the challenges and realities of UN climate negotiations. At the end of the simulation game, a de-briefing allows to reflect on the learning experience. // ECTS Card
