The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the College of Europe organised the 19th Bruges Colloquium on International Humanitarian Law. This year’s edition focused on "Legal and operational challenges raised by contemporary non-international armed conflicts".

For the 19th edition of the Bruges Colloquium, leading academics, practitioners and international experts examined a number of legal and operational challenges raised by contemporary non-international armed conflicts. The programme included discussions on the applicability of International Humanitarian Law, detention, as well as the conduct of hostilities in contemporary non-international armed conflicts. The compliance with International Humanitarian Law by non-State armed groups was also discussed. Furthermore, two panels respectively addressed interactions between International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law and the challenges faced by humanitarian actors in contemporary non-international armed conflicts.

The participation is limited and by invitation only.
