Professor Amelia HADFIELD opened the series of events at the Natolin Neighbourhood Days, organized by the European Neighbourhood Policy Chair at the Natolin (Warsaw) campus of the College of Europe, with a high-level lecture aimed at exploring the synergies and tensions between the EU’s new Global Strategy (EUGS) and the revised ENP with respect to the EU’s approach to conflicts and crises.
Professor HADFIELD’s lecture offered a timely overview of the EU’s vision for promoting peace and security in the neighbourhood, as emerging from the Union’s core strategic documents, as well as a critical appraisal of the extent to which the EUGS and ENP conflict-related provisions amount to a coherent crisis management strategy.
About the speaker:
Professor Amelia HADFIELD has been awarded a Jean Monnet Chair in European Foreign Affairs in August 2014 for her 3-year programme of cutting edge teaching, learning, and research, at Canterbury Christ Church University. In addition to founding the Energy and Governance Group at CCCU, Professor HADFIELD was also recently made a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (HEA). In the past, she worked at the Institute for European Studies and Free University of Brussels. 
In her work, she combines research, teaching, consultancy and doctoral supervision on key aspects of European foreign affairs. Her areas of expertise include Common Security and Defence Policy, EU-Russia Energy Relations, EU Neighbourhood Policy, EU Development policy (with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa), the strategic role of the Arctic, and the role of energy security within the broader framework of EU foreign policy, and energy governance.
Professor HADFIELD is regularly called upon as a guest lecturer, supervisor, and consultant on a wide range of EU foreign affairs, including the work of the European External Action Service (EEAS), UK and EU security and defence, EU energy security and Neighborhood Policy. She is currently completing research monographs on the development and application of sovereignty, contemporary foreign policy analysis, the foreign policy of EU Member States, as well as articles on EU-Russian energy geopolitics and a retrospective of the EU's neighbourhood policy.
