As a result of the various conflicts that waged in Georgia since the early 1990s, in conjunction with Russia’s unlawful actions, more than 250,000 people are internally displaced in this EU neighbourhood partner country.

The objective of this round-table, organized by the European Neighbourhood Policy Chair in the framework of the Natolin Neighbourhood Days 2016, was to familiarize the audience with past and present political developments in Georgia and discuss the situation of internally displaced people through the prism of human rights and good governance, local and regional socio-economic development, and international legal obligations.

Also, the round-table aimed to address the response by the EU and the international community, thus putting the phenomenon of displacement in Georgia in a wider regional context.

Chair: Prof. Tobias SCHUMACHER, Chairholder, ENP Chair, College of Europe, Natolin campus

  • Prof. Dr Ciarán BURKE, Friedrich Schiller University, Jena
