Dear Colleagues, Students and other Friends of the College,

Firmly committed to fulfil its European higher education mission even in the current challenging circumstances the College of Europe has over the last five weeks taken a host of measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic: while putting into place all necessary health and safety measures to protect staff and students we have secured an in the history of our institution unprecedented transition to the remote delivery of all teaching and the remote organisation of the upcoming exams, assured the continuing operation of our residence and catering services and kept the selection of our incoming students for the 2020/21 Academic Year and the continuation of our executive training on track.

With all members of our Community, including our colleagues being visiting professors, having done so much to keep our ship afloat and well on course in this crisis situation, I do not wish to single out here specific action taken only by some departments or services. I rather invite you to check regularly our website and social media channels to acquaint yourselves with some of the larger and smaller actions taken by both staff and students of Bruges and Natolin showing the resilience and solidarity of our College community.

With my warmest thanks for your support and special efforts,

and all good wishes,

Jörg MONAR
Rector of the College of Europe

› Supporting students and staff
The safety of our students and staff continues to be our priority.
We have suspended face-to-face teaching, and we have successfully adopted online alternatives thanks to the continuous efforts made by our faculty of professors, visiting professors and our expert ICT team. Our exams are being planned with the use of technology so all students from across the globe can easily partake. The vast majority of staff are working remotely whilst assuring some active presence on campus for the daily contact with our students, always assuring correct social distancing of course. Our student accommodations remain open, students being safely looked after by our dedicated staff working in the residences, the restaurant, and of course cleaning and technical support members of staff are working with their usual enthusiasm. In this rapidly evolving situation, we are keeping our Bruges community up to date with a dedicated intranet platform.

online teaching tools | Teachers are very enthusiastic about the new online teaching tools and are in regular contact with the students and academic assistants via videoconferencing.

selection process | The selection process for students of our next academic year is in full swing and interviews are conducted online using advanced technology. Fortunately we already had experience with online interviews over the past years and have now implemented these techniques in all interviews with students from over 50 nationalities.

On a daily basis cross-services teams plan for the day-to-day and also for the long term, ensuring that the College of Europe will emerge from this period as strong as possible. We are meeting daily (remotely) to ensure that we are taking the right, timely decisions to protect our students, applicants and staff, as well as giving as much clarity as possible.
› Student life & events
Whilst all events in April and May are currently cancelled, we are investigating virtual possibilities and will keep you regularly updated on this via our social media channels or via our website. Please also see our social media channels to see how students and staff are carrying on their vibrant student life, vital studies and work.

› Training & Projects
As part of the College of Europe community, the Development Office is carefully following the international and national health recommendations to help curb the spread of the pandemic. The team is now working remotely as much as possible, and all the face-to-face activities taking place in March, April and May were reviewed so that they could be postponed, transferred to online solutions or cancelled if needed.

To continue fulfilling its mission, the Development Office remains active and fully committed to delivering continuous and high-quality services to its clients and partners.
