Final Event of the MATA Spring 2021 Webinar Series

On 24 March 2021, students of the Master of Arts in Transatlantic Affairs (MATA) and other College study programmes took part in the event The Importance of Communication in International Crises Contexts – Comparing Experiences from U.S. and EU Situation Rooms”. They had an opportunity to learn about the US experience from Sarah TAKATS, former Senior Director of the White House Situation Room during President Obama’s Administration and currently Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Mission to the EU. The European perspective on the work of Situation Rooms was presented by Evgenia KARATARI, Head of Sector for ‘Crisis Monitoring Communication’ at the European External Action Service (EEAS).

This was the final event of the MATA Spring 2021 Webinar Series, which has been organised for the second year in a row.

On 17 February 2021, Andrew WOLFF, an Associate Professor in the Political Science and International Studies departments at Dickinson College (USA) and currently a  NATO Security Studies Fulbright Scholar at the College of Europe, gave a lecture on the theme of “Reviving the Transatlantic Partnership”. He explored what steps the Biden administration and the European Union can take to restore the transatlantic partnership with a view to better managing shared challenges – such as internal political fragmentation, the COVID-19 pandemic, security threats emanating from Russia, North Africa, and the Middle East, global warming, and the rise of China.

The series had been kicked off on 27 January 2021 with an event organised in cooperation with the Center for European Policy Analysis on “The Future of Warfare: How Tech Will Continue to Change Modern Conflict” with Lieutenant General (Retired) Ben HODGES, who holds the Pershing Chair in Strategic Studies at the Center for European Policy Analysis, and Nicholas NELSON, Nonresident Fellow with CEPA’s Transatlantic Defense and Security Program.
