Museums and Memory Politics Workshop, organized in cooperation with the Museum of the History of Polish Jews POLIN and the Warsaw Uprising Museum

On 30 October 2021, the European Civilisation Chair organised the workshop "Museum and Memory Politics" where students had the opportunity to experience guided visits of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews POLIN and the Warsaw Uprising Museum. Afterwards they engaged in a short lecture and discussion led by Professor Dariusz STOLA (former director of POLIN) and Dr Zachary MAZUR from the European Civilisation Chair.

This workshop on the politics of memory and memorialization is an opportunity to bring students into contact with the practical side of issues that they are discussing in class. Professor MINK’s course on history and memory introduces students to many of the concepts that can be useful for assessing the politics of memory in any context. Through the visits and discussions that followed, students will be able to apply those ideas to particular cases showing how public policies can shape representation of certain crucial episodes of national histories.
