Successful completion of EU training for senior members of the Costa Rican diplomatic corps

The Executive Education, Training and Projects Office of the College of Europe organised a 5-day online training for the Diplomatic Academy "Manuel María Peralta" of Costa Rica at the end of September 2022, in the framework of the EU-funded project "Policy and Outreach Partnership - Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean" led by Equinoccio.

The training was aimed at senior members of the Costa Rican diplomatic corps, and is part of the administrative promotion process, exploring key topics grouped in the following modules:

  • The Institutions of the European Union and the decision-making process
  • The priorities defining the EU’s blueprint for the future
  • The European Union’s action on climate and security challenges
  • Efforts towards a global Europe: Research, Development and International Cooperation
  • The Association Agreement between the European Union and Central America

The Rector of the College of Europe and Director of the European Diplomatic Academy, Ms  Federica Mogherini, shared some brief words of welcome emphasising the importance of the academic cooperation between both institutions, the Costa Rican Diplomatic Academy and the College of Europe. The permanent support and collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to Costa Rica was also key, as its officials and diplomats shared their valuable experience with the participants, thus complementing the work of professors and practitioners mobilised by the College.

The training was closed by a joint speech between Ms Lydia Peralta, Costa Rican Minister ad interim of Foreign Affairs, Vice Minister and Ms María Antonia Calvo Puerta, EU Ambassador to Costa Rica, highlighting the appreciation for the diplomatic training which is a further sign of the commitment for closer relations between Costa Rica and the European Union.
