"Europe at the Crossroads"

The College of Europe (Bruges) played host to the University Association of European Studies (UACES) conference from 6-8 September 2010 which drew together some 450 academics from the UK, mainland Europe and beyond.

Activities included a welcome address by Mr. Maros Sefcovic, Vice President of the European Commission, and Professor Paul Demaret, Rector of the College of Europe. The event was capped by plenary sessions led by Professor Jacques Pelkmans , College of Europe (Bruges) and Professor Kalypos Nicolaidis, Oxford University.

Mayor Patrick Moenaert offered a toast to the conference participants at a wine reception hosted by the College of Europe at the historic Hallen. Those who attended also enjoyed the cultural and gastronomic offerings of the famous city of Bruges, former Cultural Capital of Europe. One conference participant enthusiastically raved, "This is really the best UACES conference ever!".

The conference was organised by UACES in direct cooperation with Professor Michele Chang of the Department of European Politics and Administration.
