From 25/02 till 01/03

Geneva
Switzerland

From 25 February to 1 March 2014, the students of the EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies programme participated in the annual study trip to Geneva, Switzerland. Geneva is the European centre for multilateral diplomacy and home, among other organisations, to the European seat of the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The European Union is represented by a Permanent Mission to the WTO and a Permanent Delegation to the United Nations Office and other international organisations. The Department organised visits to these institutions with lectures by many high-level speakers, including for example Ambassador Angelo Pangratis, Head of the EU Mission to the WTO, Andrey Vasilyev, Deputy Executive Secretary of UN Economic Commission for Europe, Rüdiger Krech, Director at the Office of the Assistant Director-General of the World Health Organisation, Charlotte Warakaulle, Chief of Political Affairs at the United Nations Office, and Professor Peter Van den Bossche, Member of the Appellate Body of the WTO. The programme also included informal events and visits, in which students could meet alumni from the College of Europe and discover Swiss culture and the diplomatic hub Geneva.
