What College of Europe Intensive Seminar Professors say about the Summer School

The College of Europe Development Office Team has interviewed its Intensive Seminar Visiting Professors for the first time and has asked them what they think of this Summer School of the College. You can find their replies here below.

Justin GREENWOOD, Professor of European Public Policy, in charge of the Intensive Seminar course on 'Interest representation in the European Union'.

Why attend…

“Some of those individuals are making an investment in their own professional development funding their place to put them in a better position for career progression; others are being funded by their employers because they are starting out on a career interfacing with EU organizations, and they need to acquire a lot of knowledge very quickly. So they are able to do that, and they form within one week, or two weeks, or three weeks, a network –  a support network –  with other people in a similar position, and that would carry them through […] in their professional careers.”

Hans GEEROMS, Professor on the ‘Euro crisis’.

About the participants…

“I was very happy to see that participants from the whole world were present […]. It was a mixture of private business people and senior officials, from national governments, European and non-European governments as well as European institutions, including ECP, European Commission –  so it was a good mixture I think, and a collaborative audience.”

 About the trainers…

“We have this unique group of guest professors who work for European institutions, people of practice basically. So these are all assets only the College of Europe can offer to the international audience.”

“…specialized guest professors, who are all experts in their fields, not only in the theoretical matters but also in the practical application by the European institutions.”

Jacques BOURGEOIS, Professor on 'EU Trade Policy'.

Why participants come…

“…the added value, of course, is to be here for a limited period of time and with a very concentrated programme, very focused on a certain number of topics that are of interest to them; and they are working together, they are discussing together .”
