On 19 November 2014, Mr Vladimír ŠUCHA, Director General, DG Joint Research Centre, European Commission gave a speech on "Science Advice and EU Policymaking" for all College students. The speech was  given in the framework of the launch of the new Option European Public Policy Analysis

The European Commission's DG Joint Research Centre (DG JRC) operates daily at the interface between science and policy, where facts are uncertain, values are in dispute, stakes are high and decisions are urgent. As policymakers are increasingly confronted with a wide array of wicked problems (such as climate change, economic inequality, ageing populations, energy and food security, water scarcity), they need the best available science from across the disciplines.

The lecture highlighted DG JRC's role and experiences in providing the scientific evidence and advice needed by EU policymakers. It also outlined how the DG JRC's work contributes to wider ongoing developments in science advice to policy.
