Anna Katharina Stahl (DE) is Research Fellow at the EU-China Research Centre in the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies. She holds a PhD in political science from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Moreover, she holds an MA in EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges and a French-German double degree in political science and public law from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Lille and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster.

Before joining the EU-China Research Centre in September 2014, Anna Stahl worked as researcher in EU Foreign and Security Policy at the Institute for European Studies (IES) of the VUB, where she completed a dissertation on EU-China-Africa trilateral relations. In the framework of her doctoral research, she conducted field research in China and Africa, and was a visiting researcher at the Centre for Chinese Studies (CCS) of Stellenbosch University in South Africa. In addition to her academic expertise, Anna Stahl gained working experience at the Council of Europe, GIZ, UNDP, the European Parliament and in the NGO sector.

Research interests: European foreign and security policy, EU-China relations, multipolarity, emerging economies, EU Strategic Partnerships, Chinese foreign policy, China-Africa relations, international development cooperation (e.g. OECD DAC, post-2015 development agenda), South-South and Triangular Cooperation, EU-Africa relations, African Union, African Peace Architecture (APSA), fragile states, migration.
