Stefaan De Rynck is senior advisor of Michel Barnier, Chief EU Negotiator for Brexit, in charge of public engagement strategy and relations with think tanks. He is professor at the College of Europe since 2003, and also teaches on EU governance at the Collegio Carlo Alberto (University of Turin).

Previous professional affiliations: Professor De Rynck’s previous assignments in the European Commission include: head of  free movement of capital (DG FISMA); head of communication unit for single market matters; spokesman for EU transport policy, for the Barroso transition team and for Michel Barnier on constitutional issues (2001-2004) and financial regulation (2012-2013); co-author White Paper on European Governance (Secretariat-General); policy officer in DG Regional Policy.

Yale World Fellow (2006). Visiting Fellow at Boston University's Center for the Study of Europe (2013).

Education: PhD in Social and Political Sciences from the European University Institute, Florence (2000).

Other professional activities: Consultant for the Higher Institute of Employment and the Institute for Government (University of Leuven).

Research interests: Professor De Rynck is author of articles and books on banking union and the Eurozone crisis, regions, cohesion policy, local employment initiatives, education and environmental policy.
