PRESS RELEASE | The Competition Summer School for Asian officials returns to Bruges in 2023

The Competition Summer School for Asian officials, organised by the College of Europe within the framework of the EU-Asia Competition Cooperation project, returns to Bruges this summer. After the success of last year’s online edition, this year’s Competition Summer School will take place from 26 June to 14 July 2023 in Bruges.

Competition officials from ASEAN Member States, China, India, Japan, and Korea will attend workshops and lectures with a mix of academics, practitioners and case officers from the European Commission and EU Member States’ competition authorities as well as panel debates and other exchanges between enforcers from Asia and Europe.

The Rector of the College of Europe, Ms Federica Mogherini, will welcome the participants during the event.

On 4 July, participants from all the partner countries will visit to the European Commission Directorate-General for Competition; during this visit, several sessions, discussions and exchanges will take place between the Asian and EU officials.

The Competition Summer School programme gives participants insights into a number of new European Commission developments as well as the opportunity to explore the EU’s approach to a range of “hot topics” facing competition enforcers, including the role and contribution of competition policy to EU’s initiatives such as the green and digital transition. The programme will also explore the review and amendments to existing European Commission guidelines and the new European Digital Markets Act.

The Competition Summer School will enable exchanges of experiences, facilitate cooperation and coordination amongst the participating authorities, as well as increase and deepen the contacts with EU officials and professionals.

This activity is funded by the European Union and is part of the EU-Asia Competition Cooperation project: https://competitioncooperation.eu/.
