Christopher Lord (UK) is since October 2008 Professor at ARENA - Centre for European Studies at the University of Oslo, Norway.

Between 2004 and 2008 he was Professor of Politics and International Studies at the University of Reading. He also taught at the University of Bath and the University of Leeds, where he held the Jean Monnet Chair in European Politics, as well as at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He holds an MA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Oxford and a Ph.D. in International Relations from the London School of Economics.

Professor Lord currently holds a research grant from the European Commission's 6th Framework Programme (2007-2012) as part of an Integrated Programme co-ordinated by ARENA. He has held several grants from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), including a programme fellowship with the "One Europe or Several?" Programme (1999-2002).

Professor Lord has written several books on the democracy and legitimacy of the European Union such as A Democratic Audit of the European Union (2004), Democracy in the New Europe (2005, with Erika Harris), Democracy and the European Union (1998), Legitimacy and the European Union (1998, with David Beetham) and Political Parties and the European Union (1997, with Simon Hix). He has also published articles in the Journal of Common Market Studies, Democratisation, the Journal of Comparative European Politics, Politique Européenne and Government and Opposition.
