On Monday, 15 March 2021, the Natolin Energy and Climate Governance Nest along with our student and Climate Pact ambassador Mr Pedro DE SOUSA MENDES hosted a discussion titled "Building a greener Europe together: the European Climate Pact". The discussion was part of a broader initiative under the umbrella of the European Commission on educating on the importance of climate action.

After having received more than 3,500 replies in its online public consultation, the European Climate Pact was officially launched in December 2020, precisely one year after the adoption of the European Green Deal.

The European Climate Pact aims to enhance its civil society component through these kind of initiatives. Why and how should individuals be involved in this process and get active in their communities, and what is the relevance and implications of the green transition for our planet and society? These and more questions were addressed in this online discussion.

We had the pleasure to welcome the following speakers to the event:

  • Ms Katarzyna BALUCKA-DEBSKA, Policy Officer at the Directorate-General for Climate Action;
  • Mr Pedro DE SOUSA MENDES, student at the College of Europe in Natolin;
  • Dr Carlos da CÂMARA, geophysicist, Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon;
  • Dr Thomas HYLLAND ERIKSEN, anthropologist, University of Oslo;
  • Ms Katarzyna SMĘTEK, President of the Polish Youth Climate Council at the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment.

The event was open for students of the Natolin and Bruges campuses.
