On Monday, 8 March 2021, the College of Europe in Natolin had the pleasure of hosting an online high-level debate with Mr Clément BEAUNE, French State Secretary for European Affairs.

"Europe beyond COVID-19"

The current COVID-19 pandemic raised many questions about the future of the European Union. Mr BEAUNE engaged in an open discussion with the students about the challenges of the post-COVID recovery and what future lies ahead for the European Union. Our students, coming from many different countries and backgrounds, were able to participate in an interactive session and exchange of ideas.

The Vice-Rector of the College of Europe, Mrs Ewa OŚNIECKA-TAMECKA, delivered the opening address of the event. The online debate was moderated by Prof. Georges MINK, Chairholder of the European Civilization Chair, and Ms Annabelle CHAPMAN, a journalist based in Warsaw writing for The Economist and Monocle.

About the speaker

Mr Clément BEAUNE is Secretary of State for European Affairs in the French government. Prior to his appointment, he was Special Adviser on European Affairs to the President of the French Republic. Previously he served as European, International and Budgetary Affairs Adviser to the French Minister for the Economy, Industry and the Digital Sector (2014-2016), as Technical Adviser (budget) to the French Prime Minister (2013-2014), as Deputy Head of the Research and Higher Education Bureau (2011-2013) and as Deputy Head of the Finance Acts Bureau in the Budget Directorate (2009-2011). He is a graduate of Sciences Po, the College of Europe in Bruges and the French National School of Public Administration (ENA).
