On Tuesday, 23 March 2021, we had the pleasure to host the Natolin Academy of Migration Roundtable titled: The pandemic and its implications for migrants' access to rights.

Migrants, asylum seekers and refugees are among the most vulnerable part of the worldwide population in times of pandemic. Limited access to public health services or the hindered access to the right to seek asylum are just few of the factors that deserve our attention.

The event addressed the possible long-term effects of the pandemic on the living conditions of migrants, asylum-seekers and refugees.

The roundtable also focused on both EU and non-EU countries and on the ways in which their institutions and asylum systems have responded to the many challenges posed by the pandemic.

This event was organized by the students of the College of Europe in Natolin, including Ms Laure-Anne DENOUEL, Ms Manon GAHAM, Mr Luis MALHADINHAS, Ms Apolka KOVACS-OSVATH. It was part of the activities of the Natolin Academy of Migration established at the European Neighbourhood Policy Chair and headed by Professor Jean-Pierre CASSARINO.

We had the pleasure to welcome the following speakers to the roundtable:

  • Mr Ermal BUBULLIMA, UNHCR Associate Liaison Officer at FRONTEX;
  • Dr Jaime CALDERON, Regional Thematic Specialist on Migration Health in Brussels for the International Organization for Migration;
