College of Europe receives city award for peace mediation role

The College of Europe in Bruges has been nominated by the city of Bruges as a Sustainable Hero and has received an award in the category Peace. As a result of that honour the College of Europe Bruges campus will take up the role of local ambassador for one year and will help promote and support a more sustainable society.

The nomination is in the framework of the Sustainable Cities Week (18-25 September), a valuable project that wants to highlight the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. It confirms and acknowledges the important and persistent role of the College as a convinced catalyst in the European Integration project, that started off as a peace project responding to the horrors of the First and Second World War. Last but not least: the distinguished award trophy is a handmade piece of artwork by the local artist and designer Yves OBYN. Professor Norbert VANHOVE represented the College of Europe and received the award from the mayor of Bruges, Dirk DE FAUW.
