Eight Vietnamese officials on a fellowship programme at the College of Europe

The College of Europe Development Office hosted five Vietnamese officials earlier this year (2016), and will soon be welcoming three more.

The five officials who came in late spring/early summer work for three different ministries in Viet Nam: the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Labour. As part of an EU-funded fellowship programme, they undertook research on various aspects of the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EU-VN FTA) and were supervised by Professor Pierre DEFRAIGNE.

The two fellows from the Ministry of Science and Technology were hosted from 2 May to 31 May; whereas the other three fellows (from the Ministry of Finance and from the Ministry of Labour) arrived on 24 May remaining until 1 July.

The stay of the three new fellows, instead, will last four weeks: from 5 to 30 September. Two are officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and one works at the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

During their stay, the fellows work on their research papers closely supervised by Professor DEFRAIGNE and have a variety of meetings with EU officials as well as officials of other bodies relevant to their field of research.

As part of this fellowship programme, the College of Europe also hosted two officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam in autumn last year.

This fellowship programme is organized in the framework of the EU-funded project “Capacity building and enhancement of Government of Viet Nam Officials in support of the implementation of the Viet Nam-EU Partnership Agreement (PCA)”.
