Kick-Off Conference of the Horizon 2020 Project "Envisioning a New Governance Architecture for a Global Europe" (ENGAGE)

The College of Europe in Natolin has the pleasure to announce the official Kick-Off Conference of the Horizon 2020 Project "Envisioning a New Governance Architecture for a Global Europe" (ENGAGE), which will take place on Wednesday, 16 June 2021, from 10:00 to 15:30 CEST.

The ENGAGE project, which brings together 13 academic institutions and think tanks from across Europe, including the College of Europe in Natolin, examines how the EU can effectively and sustainably meet strategic challenges by harnessing all of its tools to become a more assertive global actor.

The European Neighbourhood Policy Chair at Natolin will lead the Work Package 8: "Engaging with the EU’s Neighbourhoods". This part of the project scrutinises the notion of "neighbourhood" and its impact on EU policies through a critical and thorough investigation of the EU’s past engagement with its neighbouring regions. It then analyses existing EU objectives, strategies, capacities and capabilities in order to identify neighbourhood – and ENP – specific areas for improvement when it comes to addressing present and future crises in the EU’s "near abroad".

The Conference features the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Dr Josep BORRELL FONTELLES and the former High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, former Secretary General of NATO Dr Javier SOLANA.

It will also welcome Dr Rosa BALFOUR, Director of Carnegie Europe, who will give the keynote lecture, Prof. Angel SAZ, Director of the Esade Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics, and Prof. Jan WOUTERS, Director of the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies, providing the opening remarks.
