Launch of the Simulation Game (09/01)

On Monday 9 January 2017, the Simulation Game of the Department of European Political and Administrative Studies will be launched!

The students will have the opportunity to experience how EU negotiations really work by assuming the role of EU key players. Each of them is indeed assigned a specific role to play (Members of the European Parliament, EU Governments, journalists, lobbyists…) during no less than four intensive weeks.

Building on last year’s model, this realistic negotiation is based on a hotly debated and ongoing file, which is the strengthening of air passenger rights in the EU. More precisely, the students will negotiate on the basis of a proposal for a regulation amending two other regulations:

  • Regulation No 261/2004 establishing common rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of denied boarding and of cancellation or long delay of flights;
  • Regulation No 2027/97 on air carrier liability in respect of the carriage of passengers and their baggage by air.

Our Keynes promotion’s students will once more enjoy the access to a dedicated social media tool (“Twitcol”) specifically designed for the simulation, increasing their toolbox for bargaining and communicating with the rest of the players.

As an added bonus, students will close the simulation game by welcoming at the Bruges campus several actual key players of the real negotiation. They will therefore have an exciting and unique opportunity to present their results and get feedback from EU politicians, civil servants, NGOs and business representatives.

Let the SimGame begin!
