Mr Oleksandr HLEBA at the debate and workshop "Problems and challenges of the European Union"

On 7 December 2019, Mr Oleksandr HLEBA, Senior Academic Assistant in the European Interdisciplinary Studies Department, attended the debate and workshop "Problems and challenges of the European Union" co-organised by the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies of the University of Warsaw and the Polish Association of European Studies.

After discussing in the plenary the external and internal challenges the EU is currently confronted with, Mr HLEBA participated in the panel dedicated to the Challenges to the European Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy where he shared his views on the topic of Conditionality and Credibility Nexus of the EU’s Enlargement towards the Western Balkans.

In the presentation, Mr HLEBA outlined the evolution of the accession conditionality since the big-bang enlargement of 2004 and the specificity of the Western Balkans’ European integration. He equally commented on the recent non-decision of the European Council on opening accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania and its impact on the credibility of EU membership perspective as well as discussed the French non-paper on reforming the enlargement process.
