Needless to say that the ongoing COVID-19 crisis has a significant impact on the vivid and dynamic student life at the College of Europe, Bruges Campus. Nevertheless, our students try to be as creative as possible. For this week's Nordic-Baltic National Week, running from Monday 23 March until Thursday 26 March, for example, the organising society decided to switch to digital initiatives. A wonderful and original way of coping with the exceptional circumstances.
"When we realised that the traditional national week would not take place, we never really considered cancelling. Our only focus was how we could adapt to the circumstances, and that is how the idea of Digital Nordic-Baltic Week came about. Given the circumstances, we wanted to keep a sense of normality at the College. We thought having ‘Hygge’ as overarching theme would be a good and sensible way to coin it and to share the positive vibes that are related to the concept", explain Julia SYRÉN, Nina OLSEN and Astrid OLESEN from the Nordic-Baltic Society.
Our only focus was how we could adapt to the circumstances, and that is how the idea of Digital Nordic-Baltic Week came about.
"Several sponsors (Cocio, Lakrids by Bülow, Simply Chocolate and Royal Dansk Butter Cookies) had already committed to support our week and we wanted both the companies and College students to benefit as far as the circumstances allow. As we continued planning our digital presence, we also realised the opportunity it gave us to contribute to the famous esprit du collège. The more we worked on it, the more we also felt connected with the Nordic-Baltic heritage of being small, yet innovative and digital societies."
Overall, the Nordic-Baltic Society wishes to spread some positivism and good vibes, reminding people that social distancing does not mean social isolation.
