Job Vacancy – Google Chair in Digital Innovation at the College of Europe

The College of Europe is seeking applications for the position of a part-time professor (50%), with a starting date as early as possible but 1 September 2017 at the latest.

The successful candidate will hold the Digital Innovation Chair financed by Google. The Chair is based in the Department of European Economics Studies in Bruges.

We are looking primarily for a specialist on the economics of digital technologies and policies, who has multidisciplinary interests and track record. However, specialists from related disciplines are also encouraged to apply as the Chair will not focus exclusively on economic issues.

Minimum requirements:

  • an appropriate academic qualification;
  • several years of university-level teaching experience in the field;
  • a substantial publication record in the field;
  • a very good command of English and French;
  • well established contacts with European institutions, business and other actors in the field.

Tasks include:

  • teaching a Master's level optional course (30h, second semester) on digital innovation and digital policies in the European Economic Studies Programme in Bruges;
  • supervising Master's theses in the field;
  • research and publications in the field;
  • organising – also in cooperation with the other Departments of Studies of the College in Bruges and in Natolin - conferences and guest lectures on digital innovation and policies;
  • being present in Bruges on a regular basis.

The College offers the following conditions:

  • a part-time contract under Belgian law (50%) of a three-year period;
  • half-time Research Assistant to help the Chair holder with research, teaching and dissemination activities;
  • an international working environment;
  • accommodation in Bruges;
  • round-trip travel between the European country of residence and the College.
